I Don’t Want Children, Stop Asking

Now that I’m almost 29, people are insistent on asking when I’m having kids. When I say I don’t want to have any, people look at me as if I sprouted two heads.

There are plenty of reasons why I don’t want to have them, none that I have to explain to you readers or anyone else…but I will for the sake of this story. I’ve known this about myself since I was 21 years old and it hasn’t change in the last 8 years.

  1. I have never felt “maternal”

I don’t really understand kids. When I think back to when I was a kid, I didn’t really like other kids either. Mostly, I think it was because I was a loner. I didn’t have many friends growing up, just a few select close friends.

I have changed diapers, babysat and held a baby. While I was good at those things, I didn’t want to do that 24/7. I know it seems like an exaggeration but babies go to the bathroom A LOT.

Being a mother was never a top priority on my list of things to do in life. I do enjoy being that cool aunt that plays video games with other people’s kids though.

2. My childhood was rough
