INTJ Female, A Rarity

Much like a holographic Charizard card back in the ‘90s.

From what I’ve been reading about the Myers-Briggs test, a woman having the personality type INTJ (Introverted, Intuition, Thinker, and Judgment) is considered unicorn-like because they only make up less than 1% of the population.

It was eerie reading the personality traits about myself because they fit me to a T. I’ve always felt like an outsider growing up and I never understood why.

I took the test months ago at the request of my husband to find out that we are both INTJ personality types. I recently decided to take the test again and didn’t answer for how I wish I was but to how I really am and still got The Architect aka INTJ Personality.

I’ve been told that I was too judgmental and arrogant. People always thought I was sad or upset when really I was just deep in thought.

I never had many friends growing up. I was bullied a lot by my classmates. The friends I did have were similar in their personality and while I don’t know what their test results are, I can confidently say they’re likely the same as me.

I am still trying to grow professionally so I was curious on the careers that play to my strengths and careers to avoid. Funny enough the first one on the link I posted is Receptionist…which is my current position.

I’m really more of an Executive Assistant but there are reception aspects to it. The job isn’t always stimulating which is what an INTJ personality desires, but that is also why my side hustle is my writing. I believe it keeps a good balance because I need money and health benefits but have the freedom of honing my writing skills. The careers I do see listed on the aforementioned website, I don’t have any interest in. I work as an Assistant at an engineering firm but have no interest to become an engineer.

Like most introverts, small talk hurts me immensely. At work I make a lot of awkward chit-chat about the weather, weekend plans, etc. There are co-workers who are like me and prefer to talk in depth about their ideas, beliefs and what their future plans are. I crave another intellectual soul when talking and sometimes that is hard to find in the workplace. When I’m out in public it can be worse because the people in the area I live in are very banal.

The test hit the nail on the head when it came to the hobbies of an INTJ personality type. They prefer reading, video games and art appreciation which are all areas I enjoy. I spent the majority of my childhood playing video games at home and reading at school. I would sometimes get in trouble for reading a book when I should have been listening in class.

While some people don’t take their horoscopes or personality tests seriously, there has to be a reason why it resonates with us when we read our results. I’m not here to say “I’m not like other girls”, I am just glad to not be alone.
